Comments by John Darnielle about this album[]

  • "...out of the very powerful Car in Car Disco Product label out of McKinleyville, California, which was a tape label run by my friend Joel. He had found a bunch of, of, uh, like, marketing tapes at, like, a dollar store, right -- a lot of them, right. And they came in these cool weird shells, and all you gotta do is rip out the erase tabs and you can put your own music on there. So he started doing that and I was, I was in one of my phases where I'm just writing songs if I'm awake, right, this happens on occasion, and I said, oh, let me do one. I sent him six songs and, and scared up a cover really quick and this was -- I'm very fond of this release because, sort of, I can barely remember it happening, there was a lot of stuff going on, and I had six songs and a friend who was doing this cool tape label, and I knew because Joel doesn't know that many people outside of his own circle, there's not going to be very many of these tapes. And I liked it when the tapes would just go missing, right. It's like, oh, suddenly they're all gone and no one will ever see one again. This was before the digital age, so it's hard to comprehend, right, that like, the scarcity of these things -- The copy I have, I only have because someone was nice enough to give me one." -- 2021-09-23 - The Queen - Wilmington, DE
